Musical Director: Richard Brain
Richard has been Musical Director of Bishop's Stortford Choral Society since September 2015. He is enjoying an ever increasingly busy and varied musical career as a Choral Conductor, holding positions as Director of Music at the parish of Christ Church Southgate, Musical Director of Barnet Choral Society, Musical Director of the de Merc Chamber Choir, and Conductor of the Sine Nomine Singers. Equally comfortable directing singers and instrumentalists on a large or small scale, Richard has conducted orchestras including Musica Donum Dei and the Hertfordshire Philharmonia alongside Barnet Choral Society for works such as Mozart's Requiem and Mendelssohn's Elijah.
Since February 2013, Richard has been Director of Music at Christ Church Southgate, home to north London's finest voluntary liturgical choir. Under his direction the choir have performed Handel's Messiah and Bach's Magnificat, with orchestra, as well as recording their first CD in ten years. Richard has taken the choir to sing at Chichester, Norwich, Peterborough and Winchester Cathedrals, as well as Tewkesbury Abbey and Westminster Abbey.
As an undergraduate, Richard held choral scholarships in Exeter and Gloucester Cathedral Choirs, before becoming a Layclerk at St Albans Cathedral while studying Choral Conducting under Patrick Russill and Cathal Garvey at the Royal Academy of Music.
