Musical Director: Richard Brain
Richard Brain has been Musical Director of Bishop’s Stortford Choral Society since 2015. During that time he has directed the choir for a number of ambitious and exciting concerts from the Baroque to contemporary works. In September of this year, Richard took up post as Director of Music at Haileybury where he directs three of the school’s choirs and symphony orchestra as well as manages a large team of visiting music teachers. He was formerly Head of Music at The Peterborough School, Director of Music of Christ Church Southgate and Musical Director of Barnet Choral Society. Alongside his choirs he has conducted orchestras including The London Mozart Players, Bishop’s Stortford Sinfonia, the Amadeus Orchestra and Musica Donum Dei. Major works conducted include Bach Christmas Oratorio, Mass in B minor and St John Passion, Beethoven Symphony No.9 and Mass in C, Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem, Duruflé Requiem, Elgar The Dream of Gerontius and The Music Makers, Handel Dixit Dominus, Judas Maccabaeus and Messiah, Haydn Creation and The Seasons, Mendelssohn Elijah, Mozart Mass in C minor and Requiem, Puccini Messe di Gloria, Poulenc Gloria, Rachmaninov All Night Vigil (The Vespers), Rutter Requiem, Smyth Mass in D, Vaughan Williams A Sea Symphony and Dona Nobis Pacem, Brahms Requiem, Verdi Requiem, and Walton Belshazzar's Feast. Orchestral repertoire conducted includes Brahms Academic Festival Overture, Beethoven Fantasy in C minor, Bizet Carmen Suite No.1, Haydn Symphony No. 82 The Bear, Holst Two Songs Without Words and Vaughan Williams The Lark Ascending and Wasps Overture. Richard studied Choral Conducting on the renowned MA Course at the Royal Academy of Music where he was awarded the Irene Burcher Prize in 2013. |
